Like most of us in the DMV, I was stuck in the house for several days, while 2 snow storms shut the Government/Schools/You name it – DOWN for almost an entire week. Way for God to show us humans whose boss. Although I don’t ever want to see another snowflake again…I made a lot of art. PRO-duct-tiv-it-eee!
Here are a couple:
Heres a detail:
The image…ehh I’m not so in love. but the texture of the pattern surprised me. I’ve been trying to get the paint to feel like velvet & after MANY attempts…I think might have something.
Yellow Ochrenessity

I just cut my hair—I was feeling real girly: I think I like that title more than I like the piece itself. I could say it over and over again. Yellow-Ochrenessity, Yellow Ochrenessity. See? #ArtNerd Tendencies I know, but the color brings my spirits up every time.

The name of the blog comes from one of my favorite artists Kehinde Wiley. I actually saw it in a Nissan Infiniti Ad in a magazine I was flipping through a few years ago (don’t ask me which magazine or what year, I doubt if i could find it). He’s on a ladder filling in the words in black paint on what seems to be a billboard. All I can remember is thinking he is SO cool. I want to be just like him in female version [LOL] and I copied it down in my sketchbook.
A Portrait in Black by Kehinde Wiley:
“We are the canvas. Genius. Original. Breathtaking. A style our own,
never before seen, ground breaking.
You see us, admire us and when you reach out to touch us,
we are gone, leaving art, Impressions and Influence
in our passing to be admired, studied and imitated in black.”
For you facebookers out there, I’ve had this quote in that little box under my profile picture for over a year…you know the box that you can say something in less than 255 characters that “explains you.” Some people put whatever a**hole phrase they can think of. Not me, I have to be semi-deep.
Anyway I’m in love with it & I’ll break it down another day. ![]()
