Raising Expectations Commission & Event

My latest commission piece was done for a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization in Washington, DC, Raising Expectations Inc., in efforts to raise money and match their grant from The DC Commission on the Arts  & Humanities and the National
Endowment for the Arts and a Happy Hour Fundraising Event on Friday, April 8th.

Their motto is “Re-Educate, Re-Connect and Re-Unify through the arts.” They are a group of local artists who broaden creative opportunities through putting together positive-minded, creative workshops to reach at-risk youth by developing their artistic intellect and analytical skills.

The above painting represents one of their music production workshops. Mixing and Jammin’ DJ Workshop where the kids learn how to  how to use a DJ turntable using mixing and scratching techniques.  They also learn musical counting and rhythm and editing tracks (photos taken by owner, Abeo Anderson):

You can see the original painting along with my other works at the Happy Hour Fundraising event on April 8th at The Library Lounge from 6-9 PM:

A portion of all proceeds from the art sales will benefit Raising Expectations Inc. Please come out, have a drink, listen to some music and enjoy the artwork. Even the smallest donations or purchases are appreciated. :)

Cheers To the Freakin’ New Year…

Hopeless Romantic

Me and this painting….we been through some thangs! If you X-rayed it, there would be a couple failed paintings under it….not that that’s unusual, but I’ve painted over this particular piece about 3 times. The only part that has stayed put is the left image of the man and woman…I like them.

I showed it for first time at the 4.10 even last weekend. I enjoyed watching people stare at it trying to figure out what language it’s in….It’s not a language. This is probably the first time I’ve used text in my work….I hate the direct usage of text, so I scrambled the words ‘hopeless romantic’ on paper a few times until it was aesthetically pleasing to me, and there you go.I was listening to the hippie-neosoul rockstar Raheem Devaughn‘s  Hopeless Romantic  off of his latest album Love&War Masterpiece on 2.14.10 …home without a date. Oops. TMI? Thats the inspo.

Shout Outs 2 Light.Vision.Warriors.Tribe

So, I have got to get better @ updating this thing. BUT I wanted to shout out the Tribe… Cuz they are absolutely amazing! They have no idea what impact they’ve had on my life in just the past month. I believe I’ve found a family of artists.  I had my art/vendor show V-Card and taken on February 19th 2010 and I was glad my first time was with them! God definitely brings people into your life for certain reasons, and by His grace I was introduced to them.  They are some of the most positive, inviting, and fun-loving people I’ve had the pleasure to be around in a long and I am so thankful for having met them. This is just the beginning…but shout out to Liz, Madessa, Choke and
Taurean….and to the all of the others I have yet to meet.

Check Out pics from the Black Heritage Show a few weeks ago. Mucho Fun.

I painted ‘live” for the first time. I did a photo of one of the tribe members from a phone pic and my hands were literally shaking beyond control from being so nervous. I honestly don’t know how I made a straight line, but they encouraged me….hyped me. I got madd love…And now i can’t wait to do it again. This is the beginning of a beautiful relationship.  Watch out for us, we are only growing!

Madessa. The finished portrait. Who knew? :)

Last but not least….SEXYPHOOOOONNNNEEE. :)

k bye.

Snowpacolypse

Like most of us in the DMV, I was stuck in the house for several days, while 2 snow storms shut the Government/Schools/You name it – DOWN for almost an entire week. Way for God to show us humans whose boss. Although I don’t ever want to see another snowflake again…I made a lot of art. PRO-duct-tiv-it-eee!
Here are a couple:

Heres a detail:
The image…ehh I’m not so in love. but the texture of the pattern surprised me. I’ve been trying to get the paint to feel like velvet & after MANY attempts…I think might have something.

Yellow Ochrenessity

I just cut my hair—I was feeling real girly: I think I like that title more than I like the piece itself. I could say it over and over again. Yellow-Ochrenessity, Yellow Ochrenessity. See? #ArtNerd Tendencies I know, but the color brings my spirits up every time.
